The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has confirmed its first 3 cases of Omicron variant in the country, today 1 December 2021.
Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, the NCDC director-general said in line with the required test for all international travelers, Nigeria’s first case of the Omicron Variant has been confirmed.
It was discovered that these three persons were said to have traveled in from South Africa in the past week.
He said the process has begun for contact tracing, linkage to clinical care and other necessary steps are being taken to quickly curb the spread.
He further said:
“Our focus is to complete sequencing of relevant accrued samples of SARS-COV-2 positive travelers from all countries, especially those countries that have reported the Omicron variant already.”
All travelers into and outside Nigeria are now required to present a negative COVID-19 test done 48hrs before departure.
Nigerians are advised to adhere to all the protocols and safety measures. It has not been discovered if the symptoms are different from others. He made it known that there is a lot yet to be learned about the Omicron variant.
Adetifa urges religious leaders, business owners and those in authority to to to to to ensure that those around them do not flout laud down rules.
