Former President of United States has announced that, if re-elected, he would automatically grant green cards to foreign graduates of U.S. colleges.
He disclosed this during a podcast interview with Silicon Valley tech investors on June 20, 2023, just days after President Joe Biden announced a citizenship pathway for immigrants married to U.S. nationals.
This marks a surprising shift from Trump’s typical tough stance on immigration.
“What I want to do and what I will do is, if you graduate from a college, I think you should automatically receive a green card as part of your diploma to stay in this country,” Trump stated.
He clarified that this policy would apply to anyone who graduates from a college, including those who complete two-year programs at junior colleges as well as doctoral graduates. When asked if he would help bring the “best and the brightest” to America, Trump responded, “I do promise.”
“I know of stories where people graduate from a top college, or any college, and they desperately want to stay here… and they can’t. They go back to India, they go back to China. They start similar companies in those countries and become multi-billionaires, employing thousands of people,” Trump said.
