Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has responded to mounting public pressure by pledging to repair 120 roads across 20 local government areas.
This decision came after a social media campaign highlighted the deplorable state of roads in the region, with citizens sharing photos and videos under the hashtag #Dapofixogunroads.
The campaign was spearheaded by Hauwa Allahbura, who used her platform to draw attention to the issue, prompting widespread criticism of the governor’s administration.
The state government initially argued that many of the problematic roads were under federal jurisdiction. However, this response did not satisfy the campaigners, who intensified their demands for immediate action.
In a statement released by the Commissioner of Works, Engr Ade Akinsanya, it was noted that the Abiodun-led administration had already embarked on extensive road rehabilitation and construction projects.
Akinsanya emphasized that the prioritization of these projects would depend on available funds and the economic importance of the roads.
The governor’s commitment includes collaboration with the Federal Government to rehabilitate an additional 14 roads.
Some of the key roads listed for joint rehabilitation are Laderin-Train Station (Phase 1), Adesanolu Road in Mowe, Liberty Road in Oru Ijebu, and several others.
