The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vehemently opposed the potential candidacy of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, as a successor to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the 2027 gubernatorial elections.
This stance comes in response to endorsements from groups such as the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders and Friends of Seyi Tinubu.
Hakeem Amode, spokesperson for the Lagos PDP, dismissed the idea of Seyi Tinubu’s candidacy, stating, “Lagos will not serve him.”
He criticized the notion of governance being treated as a family inheritance, warning that any attempt to impose Seyi Tinubu as governor would face strong resistance.
Amode emphasized that governorship is not a gift, but rather a position that requires the trust and confidence of the people. He noted that Lagosians had already shown their disapproval of the Tinubu political dynasty during the last presidential election by voting against President Tinubu.
This, Amode argued, is a clear signal that they would not support his son’s governorship aspirations.
