
An Ekiti State High Court has sentenced four individuals to death by hanging for conspiracy and armed robbery.
On Thursday, August 3, 2021, at Ilutitun Street in Ikere Ekiti. Justice Lekan Olatawura found Oyedele Oluwatobi (27), Damilola Christopher (30), Tope Ojo (37), and Temitope Aderopo (37)were found guilty for their role in an armed robbery.
The four were charged in April 2024 with five counts relating to conspiracy and armed robbery.
The court was informed that the defendants, armed with firearms, had plotted to rob victims Idowu Damilola, Ganiyu Abimbola, Idowu Tolulope, and Taye Adegboye. The stolen items included phones, power banks, laptops, a charger, a sound system, jewelry, and N136,000.
One of the victims, Idowu Damilola, recounted that she was sleeping when the robbers broke into her room, and she was forced to reveal herself after the intruders threatened her brother with a gun.
“I was forced down from the ceiling where I hid myself when the intruders threatened my brother with a gun,” she said.
Justice Olatawura ruled that the prosecution had proven the charges beyond reasonable doubt, with the defendants admitting to the crime. He sentenced Ojo, Aderopo, Oluwatobi, and Christopher to death by hanging, concluding with, “May God have mercy on your souls.”
