The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has indeed begun monitoring local government funds to ensure transparency and accountability.
This move is in response to the financial autonomy granted to local governments, which has raised concerns about potential mismanagement of funds.
According to EFCC Chairman, Olukoyede, the commission has a department called Fraud Risk Assessment and Control that is closely monitoring and tracking payments, contracts, and other releases to ensure that funds are expended on what they are meant for.
This development is welcomed by groups such as the National Christian Youth Professionals, who have called on the EFCC to strictly monitor the management of local government funds.
The group’s chairman, Isaac Abrak, emphasized the need for prudent management of resources to accelerate growth, reduce poverty, and promote development at the grassroots level.
