The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction and sentencing of one Babatunde Peter Olaitan (known by the alias TDollar) and another Tobilola Olamide (TobiNation) to six months’ imprisonment each for the abuse and mutilation of Naira notes.
Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos State, delivered the judgment after both defendants pleaded guilty to separate one-count charges of tampering with and spraying Naira notes at a social event held on April 8, 2025, at 23 Macdonald Road, Ikoyi.
The EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate charged the duo under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007, which prohibits the abuse and mutilation of Nigerian currency.
According to the prosecution, both individuals were seen in a viral TikTok video spraying N200 notes while dancing at the event.
EFCC investigative officer, Ibrahim Bukar, testified that an intelligence-led investigation was initiated on April 10, 2025, following the viral video. Bukar disclosed that Olaitan admitted during interrogation that he received a bundle of N200 notes from a fan, which he subsequently sprayed on other guests.
The charge against Olaitan reads: “That you, BABATUNDE PETER OLAITAN, on 8th April 2025, at 23 Macdonald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, whilst dancing during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N200 (Two Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying it, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.”
The charge against Olamide reads, “That you, TOBILOLA OLAMIDE a.k.a. TobiNation, on 8th April 2025, at 23 Macdonald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, whilst dancing during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N200 (Two Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying it, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.”

Following their guilty pleas, EFCC prosecutors C.C. Okezie and H.U. KofarNaisa presented the facts of the case through Bukar, who confirmed that the Commission had invited the defendants for questioning.
Bukar stated that after the Zonal Director approved the investigation, a letter was sent to the defendants requesting a statement regarding the video.
On May 5, 2025, Olaitan appeared before the Special Operations Team (SOT) and gave a statement under caution. He admitted attending a nightclub on April 8, 2025, where a fan gifted him a bundle of N200 notes, which he sprayed on other fans.

He was shown the video evidence and made a statement in response.
The court admitted both the defendants’ statements and the video recordings into evidence.
Justice Owoeye subsequently convicted and sentenced both Olaitan and Olamide to six months’ imprisonment each, with an option of a N200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) fine.
Their journey to the Correctional Centre began when EFCC operatives arrested them for Naira abuse, leading to their prosecution and conviction.
