Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has directed all commissioners and political appointees to defect with him from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), or resign from their positions.
Eno said it was no longer news that he had made up his mind to defect to the APC.
“Anybody who claims they are not aware of my intention to leave the PDP is still living in the 18th century,” Eno stated.
The Governor reportedly gave the directive to commissioners and his political appointees during the ongoing State Executive Council meeting taking place in Uyo on Thursday, according to sources present.
According to Governor Eno, he has admired President Bola Tinubu from a distance and would like to align with him.
He warned his appointees that they either follow him or step aside, as he has nothing to negotiate with them.
“Apart from elected officials like House of Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen, I have nothing to negotiate with you.
“Let me tell you, anybody who believes that when I leave the PDP they will use the party structure to fight me is lying, because I will still control the PDP structure,” the source quoted Eno as saying.
Our correspondent gathered from sources close to Government House that Governor Eno would likely jettison the PDP on June 6, bringing to an end more than 25 years of the party being in power in Akwa Ibom State.
