The Nigeria Police Force has taken swift action after a video showing officers extorting motorists went viral.
The footage, which spread widely on Monday, showed a police officer asking motorists for ₦5,000 or five litres of fuel if they couldn’t produce proof of Electronic Central Motor Registry compliance.
In response, the Force’s Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemned the officers’ conduct in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
Adejobi said, “This behaviour is completely unacceptable.
The officers involved have been identified and summoned to Force Headquarters for disciplinary measures.
We will not tolerate any form of indiscipline or unprofessionalism. The public will be updated on our actions as soon as possible.”
