Bhenji has unearthed the fascinating history behind an iconic building in Ijebu Igbo, opposite the post office and adjacent to the fire station.
According to the information gathered, the ionic building was originally constructed in 1957, this architectural gem was once the residence of Chief Peteru Arobieke, a renowned newspaper vendor. The building’s storied past is a testament to its enduring significance.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the ground floor of the building was home to the popular Lawalsom Film House, a hub for cinematic entertainment.
Although the film house is no longer in operation, the building remains intact, serving as a cherished heritage site.
Interestingly, the building also served as a police barracks in the 1990s, further solidifying its importance in the community.
The Arobieke House is an outstanding example of mid-90’s-century architecture, boasting impressive staircases and a well-planned design. Its rich history and cultural significance make it a valuable asset to the people of Ijebu Igbo.
