Troops of Sector 5, Operation UDO KA, in a joint operation with operatives of the 63 Brigade and the Department of State Services (DSS), have intercepted a truck loaded with more than 164,000 live cartridges allegedly destined for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The operation, carried out on May 29, 2025, along the Asaba–Onitsha expressway, followed credible intelligence and led to the arrest of a suspected arms courier identified as Mr. Emeka Omenife.
According to intelligence sources who spoke with Zagazola Makama, Omenife was promptly handed over to the DSS for interrogation.
During questioning, he reportedly confessed to being part of a smuggling syndicate responsible for transporting ammunition from Ghana to Nigeria for use by IPOB/ESN operatives.
Acting on the lead, troops apprehended his alleged accomplice, Uchenna Obiora, at the Onitsha–Awka tollgate on May 30, 2025, while he was reportedly awaiting delivery of the consignment.
This second arrest led to the successful interception of the truck carrying the concealed ammunition.
