Atiku, David Mark, Secondus, Others Exit PDP, Back New Coalition Against Tinubu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered a major blow ahead of the 2027 general elections, as prominent party leaders including Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, and former PDP Chairman Uche Secondus have reportedly dumped the party to form a new opposition coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The development was disclosed in a communiqué issued after a strategic meeting of “Concerned Leaders of the PDP,” held in Abuja on Tuesday.

The meeting brought together some of the party’s most influential figures, including former governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), and Sam Egwu (Ebonyi), among others.

In the communiqué, the leaders decried the current state of the nation under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, accusing it of plunging the country into unprecedented hardship.

“The APC government, which came into being on the false and evil propaganda to save Nigeria from PDP, is now a disaster to our nation and must be voted out of power,” they said.

They also expressed dismay at the weakened state of the PDP, describing it as “a shadow of its old self.” According to the group, relentless intimidation, blackmail, and strategic patronage by the ruling party have eroded discipline and loyalty within the PDP, compelling many of its members to abandon the platform.

The leaders emphasized the need for a unified national opposition and called on “all well-meaning PDP members and other patriotic Nigerians to join the coalition” to rescue the country from its current path.
