A devastating accident has claimed the lives of 12 passengers after an 18-seater commercial bus plunged into a river near Awa-Ijebu, along the Ijebu Ode–Ibadan route.
The tragic incident occurred just hours ago on the bridge after Awa, with preliminary reports suggesting that overspeeding may have led to the driver losing control before the vehicle veered off the road and into the river.
According to an eyewitness who spoke with Ijebu Rewa, the rescue operation was harrowing and lasted over four hours before the victims could be recovered from the water.
The remains of the deceased have been taken to the Ijebu Ode Morgue, while authorities are expected to carry out a full investigation into the cause of the crash.
