The Sokoto State Government under Ahmad Aliyu has faced allegations of mismanagement of funds after distributing garri, kuli-kuli, and sachet water to residents under its N1 billion budgeted Ramadan feeding programme.
The controversy began after a political commentator, Mallam Jabir, disclosed details of the programme in a post on X.
“Ramadan feeding program in Sokoto state. The Sokoto state government budgeted 1 billion naira for the program,” he wrote.
The development was further amplified by another X user identified as OurFaveOnlineDoc, who shared photos purportedly showing items distributed under the scheme. The items reportedly included small quantities of garri, kulikuli and sachets of drinking water.
In his post, OurFaveOnlineDoc questioned the adequacy of the items in relation to the reported budget.
“Please look at these pictures. Look at it very closely and zoom in. This is the government-funded Ramadan feeding program in Sokoto.
“Sokoto state govt claims they budgeted 1 billion naira for what you are seeing here.
“Even during the holy month of Ramadan, these wicked lunatic criminal thieves in government are still stealing,” he wrote.
The posts have since generated reactions online, with some users demanding transparency and accountability from the Sokoto State Government. In contrast, others called for verification of the claims and clarification on how the funds were allocated and spent.
