The DAAF Media Team has refuted a circulating social media claim credited to Hon. Joseph Folorunsho Adegbesan, in which he allegedly declared himself the “Consensus Candidate” for the House of Representatives seat of Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released to the public, the DAAF team described the announcement as premature, misleading, and not reflective of any agreed position within the party structure or among stakeholders in the constituency.
According to the statement, no formal or widely accepted consensus has been reached among political leaders, aspirants, and stakeholders across the three local government areas involved. It stressed that the process of selecting a consensus candidate under the Electoral Act and APC guidelines cannot be based on personal declaration or social media announcements.
The team emphasized that such a process requires extensive consultations, mutual agreement among all aspirants, and proper documentation endorsed by relevant parties before any individual can legitimately be recognized as a consensus candidate.
It further referenced a meeting held on Monday, 4th May 2026, at the Presidential Lodge, Abeokuta, where the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, reportedly noted that consultations are still ongoing with party leaders and stakeholders across various constituencies, including Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside.
The statement also clarified that the claim by Hon. Joseph Folorunsho Adegbesan represents a personal position and should not be interpreted as the official stance of the party or a collective decision of stakeholders.
Party members, supporters, and the general public were urged to disregard any publication that could create confusion, tension, or misinformation regarding the selection process.
The team added that the matter will be formally brought to the attention of the All Progressives Congress National Working Committee for review and necessary action.
Reaffirming its position, the media team stated that Dr. Adeeko Ayodele Fiyinfoluwa (DAAF) remains committed to democratic principles, internal party unity, due process, and fair political engagement. It expressed confidence that the party leadership will continue to ensure justice, equity, and transparency in all decisions concerning the forthcoming elections.
The statement concluded with a call for calm among supporters as consultations continue within the party structure across the constituency.
