Armed Bandits have attacked Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting the school principal, a National Examinations Council (NECO) ad-hoc staff member and four students who were sitting for the ongoing NECO examinations.
The attack occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, throwing the school and surrounding community into panic.
Following the incident, a combined team of police and other security agencies launched a search-and-rescue operation and is currently pursuing the assailants in an effort to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday.
She disclosed that one of the abducted students had been rescued, while security operatives continue efforts to secure the safe release of the remaining victims.
According to the police spokesperson, “So far, one of the abducted students has been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and the arrest of the perpetrators.”
