Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has inaugurated the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, as the new Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by traditional rulers across the state, including the Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Jaiyeola Lawrence Adebajo (Ojuromi VI), who is also the Chairman of the Obas-in-Council in Ijebu Land.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Abiodun urged traditional rulers to use their influence, wisdom and strong connection with the people to promote peace, security and responsible participation in governance.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, the governor called on the monarchs to educate their subjects on the importance of peaceful and responsible political participation.
He warned that political activities must not be allowed to lead to violence, thuggery, hatred or division among the people.
Governor Abiodun also praised traditional rulers across Ogun State for their continued support and cooperation with the government and security agencies, particularly through community mobilisation and the sharing of useful grassroots information to help fight crime.
The governor disclosed that all suspects linked to the recent abduction of students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, had been arrested.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Ogun State unsafe for kidnappers, cultists, criminals and their collaborators.
While congratulating Oba Gbadebo on his appointment, Governor Abiodun expressed confidence that the new chairman would build on the achievements of his predecessor, the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle.
He urged the new chairman to use his position to strengthen unity among traditional rulers and deepen the partnership between the traditional institution and government in promoting peace, security, development and prosperity across Ogun State.
The presence of the Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo, Oba Jaiyeola Lawrence Adebajo (Ojuromi VI), further underscored the participation of the Ijebu traditional institution in matters concerning the peace, security and development of Ogun State.
