Yayi Threatens to Sue Over Claims of Ekiti Origin After His Father Was Allegedly Buried in Ekiti State

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to political opponents, Hon. Abayomi Hunye and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello, to substantiate claims regarding his state of origin or face legal action for defamation.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, gave the reaction in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro.
He threatened to institute legal action against them if they failed to prove their claims.
Recall that the duo of Hunye and Marcus-Bello, at different times during interviews on a national television station, insisted that Adeola lied about his state of origin, saying his claim of Ogun State was nothing but a blatant lie.
Reacting, Adeola described the allegations as false and defamatory, saying he would seek legal redress if the claims were not substantiated.
He said, “I watched in utter disbelief as these characters that I hardly know utter assertive and outrageous lies about my origin without any proof.
“One falsely claimed on TV that I am from Ekiti and when asked where exactly in Ekiti went moronically blank and could not provide an answer.
“The other one was lying about the locations of the graves of my parents as if she was part of the undertakers at the burial all in a futile effort to justify an unsustainable falsehood. Enough is enough.
“They should produce their evidence in 24 hours or be ready for my lawsuits,” the senator stated.
The statement recalled that the rumour of the Senator’s alleged Ekiti State origin was initially used as a propaganda tool to prevent his emergence as Senator representing Ogun West senatorial district, but the gimmick failed to prevent the people of the district from voting massively for him at the 2023 National Assembly elections.
It further claimed that the allegation had resurfaced ahead of the 2027 Ogun governorship election as Adeola seeks the APC nomination and campaigns for the state’s top political office.
