Nigerian singer and entrepreneur Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has reflected on his journey into pastoral ministry, recalling a joke he once made about the meaning of his nickname, P.Banks.
Banky W said he used to joke that the “P” in P.Banks stood for “Professor”, not “Pastor”.
“I used to joke that the ‘P’ in P.Banks stood for Professor, not Pastor. 😂 I guess God heard,” he wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday.
The post featured Banky W performing a worship song about learning to trust God even when His response does not match personal expectations.
The song reflects on the frustration of feeling that God has not answered a request, before recognising that He has always provided what was needed.
It also speaks about letting go of attempts to fit God into a version created by human expectations and learning to trust His purpose.
For Banky W, the old joke about his nickname now carries a different meaning as he embraces his calling in Christian ministry.
The entertainer has increasingly combined his music and entertainment career with Christian ministry, publicly sharing messages about faith, purpose and spiritual growth.
