Alhaji Abdul-Hameed Femi Omotayo, popularly known as OmoOwo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, has declared his confidence in defeating Governor Dapo Abiodun by noon on January 16, 2027.
OmoOwo made the declaration during a media parley at OmoOwo Hall, Ijebu-Ode, where he discussed his ambition, development priorities for Ogun East and expectations for the forthcoming elections.
The candidate used the engagement to draw attention to the economic challenges facing skilled workers, particularly artisans whose expertise often earns them far less than their counterparts in specialised industries.
Citing the disparity between welders working in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, who he said could earn between $300 and $600 daily, and local welders in Ijebu, OmoOwo called for practical pathways to connect artisans with better-paying opportunities.
He argued that skills development must go beyond training and certificates to include access to employers, industry opportunities and sustainable livelihoods. Such connections, he noted, could improve household incomes and contribute to economic growth across Ogun East.
The media parley provided journalists with an opportunity to question the PDP candidate on his political ambition and ideas for the district ahead of the 2027 elections.
His noon declaration set an assertive tone for his campaign, while his remarks on skilled workers highlighted the economic opportunities he wants Ogun East to pursue.
