The Rivers State Police Command has queried and relieved the DPO in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the outpost after suspected c¥ltists reportedly renovated the facility and visited to celebrate its completion.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, October 15, 2026, according to a video circulating on social media.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 16, and signed by ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, the Command said it had ordered a full investigation to establish the circumstances and verify the allegations.
The police, led by Commissioner of Police Olugbenga A. Adepoju, condemned actions capable of undermining the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Command warned that police facilities are public institutions meant to protect citizens and enforce the law, not platforms for cr+minal groups to seek recognition or influence.
The Commissioner directed investigators to identify those who financed the renovation, establish which officers authorised it, determine whether proper procedures were followed and ascertain whether any personnel breached professional standards.
While acknowledging that communities could contribute to improving police facilities, the Command stressed that assistance must not compromise police independence, security or professional standards.
It cited Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund, noting that donations must follow the applicable legal and administrative framework.
The Command emphasised that no donation would confer immunity from investigation or prosecution. Officers found culpable would face disciplinary measures, while legal action would follow where warranted.
The police urged the public to remain calm and provide credible information to help security agencies tackle c¥ltism and organised cr+me in Rivers State.
