Electricity users in the entire Lagos State and parts of Ogun State will experience a 25-day power outage, starting from July 28, according to power distribution companies.
The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors said the disruption was a result of maintenance work to be carried out by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
Electricity supply would be cut off daily for nine hours from 8am to 5pm, starting from Monday.
Confirming the development while speaking on TVC on Monday, ANED Chief Executive Officer, Sunday Oduntan, said the power disruption would affect the whole of Lagos State, some parts of Ogun State like Sagamu, Ogijo and Abeokuta.
The TCN had earlier said that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigeria Independent System Operator (NISO) granted it the approval for a critical infrastructure upgrade in one of its 330kV lines, wheeling bulk power to Lagos and its environs.
“The upgrade involves the installation of Optical Ground Wire fibre cable on the Omotosho/Ikeja West 330kV transmission line, scheduled from July 28, 2025, to August 21, 2025, from 8 am to 5 pm,” the TCN stated.
It explained that while power would be restored through the line after each day’s work, all other circuits would remain operational to ensure a stable power supply to the Lagos complex during the exercise.
“Upon completion, the upgrade will enable full operationalisation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system, enhancing real-time monitoring and management of the power grid,” it was stated.
Oduntan added that the power system would be shut down for safety reasons during the course of the upgrade.
Meanwhile, electricity distribution companies in Lagos State: Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (Ikeja Electric) have informed customers about the planned upgrade.
In separate public notices, both DISCOS said there will be “intermittent power supply” during the period.
