Another female councillor elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has died, marking the fifth of such loss less than two months after the inauguration of the current council administration.
Mrs. Adebimpe Akintola, Council Manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers, reportedly passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, after a brief illness.
Her burial will follow Islamic rites, with the Janazah Prayer scheduled at Al Kitab Mosque, Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin, after Zuhr Prayer, followed by interment at Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara.
Mrs. Akintola’s death is the latest in a troubling series of fatalities among female APC local government officials in Lagos.
Since the inauguration of the current council administration on July 27, 2025, the state has also lost Oluwakemi Rufai of Ibeju-Lekki on August 13.
Zainab Adeshewa Shotayo of Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA on August 18
Princess Oluremi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, on September 20, and Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan of Shomolu Ward F on September 21.
While some of these deaths were linked to brief illnesses, several remain unexplained, raising unease among residents and council staff.
With Mrs. Akintola’s passing, Lagos has now lost five female APC local government officials in under two months, prompting questions about the pressures facing elected officials and the welfare of those serving at the grassroots level.
