Ijebu-Igbo witnessed a remarkable act of compassion and community spirit on October 1st 2025, when the Committee of Friends of Alhaji (Chief) Ismail Lawal Abinugbola, the Oluomo of Ijebu-Igbo, organized a surprise empowerment program in his honor.
The initiative, designed to uplift the aged, widows, and less privileged across the five quarters of Ijebu-Igbo — Oke Sopen, Atikori, Ojowo, Japara, and Oke Agbo reached 250 beneficiaries, with 50 people supported in each quarter.
The program kicked off at Oba Ibilola Hall, Four Roads, Atikori, where about 50 less privileged, elderly men and women received envelopes containing ₦10,000 each. The empowerment train then moved to M’Royal Hall, Agbowa Oke Sopen, Japara Community Town Hall, Ojowo Roundabout Itale Ojo, and finally Oke Agbo Ita Merin School, where beneficiaries in each location were equally supported.
In a touching moment, the beneficiaries across all five quarters expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Oluomo of Ijebu-Igbo. Many of them offered emotional words of appreciation, praying for his good health, long life, and greater success in his endeavors.
Speaking after learning about the initiative, Alhaji Ismail Lawal Abinugbola expressed shock and deep appreciation, noting that the program was a complete surprise to him. He thanked his friends and well-wishers who conceived the idea and assured the community that such projects would continue.

“I was really surprised; I never saw this coming. I thank my friends and everyone who made this possible. May Almighty Allah bless the entire team who put this together for the people,” he said.
The organizers emphasized that the initiative was non-political, aimed solely at supporting the vulnerable in society.
