Convocation ceremony of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) for the 2024/2025 academic session held today with 316 graduating students bagging First Class honour.
The ceremony, the 40th held by the university, will also witness award of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) to 234 students in the post-graduate category.
The first class honourees and the Ph.D students are among the total 11, 886 students that are graduating at the convocation.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, at the pre-convocation press briefing said that other graduating students under the first degree/diploma category also include 4,120 who earned Second Class (Upper Division), 5,939 who will be awarded with Second Class (Lower Division), 1, 078 (Third Class) and 11 who will Pass grade.
He said that while the list in the first degree programme also include 175 MB: BS, 94 Nursing, 40 Optometry, 36 Veterinary Medicine and 64 Physiotherapy graduating students, students earning Diploma award are 13 in number.
Egbewole explained that aside from the Ph.D student in the post graduate category 916 will earn their Masters, 188 professional Masters and 182, Postgraduate Diploma.
The Vice Chancellor also hinted that 7,290 students out of 9, 929 that registered for a traning programme in entrepreneural skills organised by the school have graduated from the programme.
He said the university came about the programme when it established the University of Ilorin Innovative Skills Pioneering Entrepreneurship (U-INSPIRE) where the school partner with the industry to equip students with skills needed by the industry and improve students’ employability rate.
