Akeem Akintunde, a former Director of Programmes at Ogun State Television (OGTV) and past Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun State chapter, has died.
He passed away on Wednesday night after a long illness. His death was confirmed by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council.
In a statement signed by the Council’s Secretary, Bunmi Adigun, the NUJ described his death as a great loss to journalism in Ogun State. The union said he was a dedicated professional who gave his best to journalism and sports throughout his career.
Akintunde was well respected by his colleagues for his deep knowledge of broadcasting and sports. Many described him as someone who was fully committed to his work until the end.
During his time as Director of Programmes at OGTV, he made significant contributions that helped shape the station and inspire many young broadcasters.
The family is expected to announce burial arrangements later.
The NUJ has asked friends, colleagues, and well-wishers to pray for the family during this difficult time.
