Abulesowo FC emerged champions of the 2026 Ramadan Cup after a thrilling penalty shootout victory over Alubarika FC in Ijebu Igbo.
The highly anticipated final ended goalless 0-0 at full time, with both sides displaying resilience and tactical discipline. However, Abulesowo FC held their nerve during the penalty shootout, edging Alubarika FC 3-2 to clinch the prestigious title.
The tournament, organized by the Ijebu Igbo Grassroots Sports Initiative now fully registered with the government was widely praised for its structure, competitiveness, and overall success. The organizers reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining and improving the competition in future editions.
As part of the event’s highlights, a 30-minute novelty match was played between Team Ijebu Igbo Football Legends and the Coaches of the Tournament. The entertaining encounter ended 2-1 in favor of the coaches, adding excitement and nostalgia to the occasion.

The organizers expressed deep appreciation to all sponsors and supporters who contributed to the success of the tournament, including Dr Adeeko Ayodele Fiyinfoluwa, Alhaji Taofeek Ajisafe Rabiu, Chief Keji Opeyemi, Adeniyi Olamilekan Ogunyemi, Alhaji Adebambo Kehinde, Hon. Oroyinyin Olawale, Mr. Sulaiman Akanji (Allahusamad) among others.
Special recognition was also given to the officiating referees and everyone who supported the movement, ensuring a smooth and memorable competition.
Abulesowo FC’s Abimbola Sunday emerged as the standout performer of the tournament with cash prize, clinching both the Best Player award and the Highest Goal Scorer title for his exceptional display.
The winners of the tournament went home with a cash prize of N200,000 along with their medals, while the runners-up received N100,000 and medals in recognition of their performance.
Meanwhile, Alubarika FC’s goalkeeper, Emoney, was honored with cash prize as the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament for his impressive performances between the posts.
Overall, the 2026 Ramadan Cup concluded successfully, leaving fans, players and stakeholders with moments of joy, unity, and sporting excellence.
