The Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Ijebu Ode has complained about the delay in choosing a new Awujale and has asked Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dapo Abiodun to step in and help resolve the issue.
Speaking on Sunday at his residence in Ijebu Idowa, the Chairman of the ruling house, Abdulateef Owoyemi, said the delay has caused tension across Ijebuland. He spoke alongside the Deputy Chairman, Adedokun Ajidagba, and the Vice Chairman, Fassy Yusuf.
Owoyemi explained that the selection process has been stopped for over three months, even though no member of the ruling house or the kingmakers has been found guilty of any wrongdoing. He said security agencies, including the police and DSS, have investigated the allegations of bribery but found no evidence.
He added that the selection of a new Awujale should continue according to tradition. The process is being handled by the kingmakers led by Dr. Sunny Kuku.
“For more than three months, the Ogun State Government has stopped the process because of petitions that have not been proven,” Owoyemi said.
He also said members of the ruling house have been questioned several times, but nothing has been found against them.
“Despite this, we are still facing suspicion and pressure,” he added.
Owoyemi then appealed to the state government to lift the suspension and allow the kingmakers to continue their work without interference.
He expressed confidence in the kingmakers, saying they are trustworthy and served the late Awujale with dedication.
The Awujale throne became vacant in July 2025 after the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who ruled for 65 years and died at the age of 91.
The Ogun State Government first stopped the selection process in December 2025 over some concerns, and again in January 2026 after receiving petitions from security agencies and other stakeholders.
A total of 95 people, including 94 princes and one princess, have shown interest in becoming the next Awujale from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
