IJEBU IGBO, Ogun State
A major milestone was achieved in Ijebu Igbo on Saturday, June 28, 2026, as local government authorities, stakeholders, elder council, traditional leaders, security agencies, market leaders and members of the Ijebu Ponmo Sellers Association gathered at the Ijebu North Local Government Secretariat, Ijebu Igbo for a historic reconciliation and unification meeting.
The meeting, which was described as peaceful, progressive and successful, officially resolved the leadership issues within the association and established a unified structure that will promote peace, unity and sustainable growth among all members.
The event began with an opening prayer led by Sheikh Musibadeen, while the host, Mr. Animashaun Idris, welcomed participants and introduced the purpose of the gathering.
Hon. Niyi Sojirin, Secretary of the Ijebu North Local Government (SLG), delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the importance of unity, cooperation and mutual respect among members of the association.
An advisory speech was presented on behalf of the Ijebu Elders Council by the Council Secretary, Otunba Remi Ogunbanjo, who encouraged members to embrace peace and work together for the progress of the association.
The Chairman of the Ponmo Riders Association also addressed the gathering, calls for unity and progress of the association, while representatives of the Orimolusi-in-Council, led by Chief Mrs. Idowu Bamiro the Iyalaje General of Ijebu Igbo, urged members to maintain love, unity and harmony within the association.
The Baba Egbe General Oni Ponmo, Alhaji Ajibise, advised members to remain united and prayed for the continuous growth, peace and prosperity of the association.
Security representatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, Area Commander of Ijebu Igbo represented, also addressed members. They advised everyone to remain law-abiding, maintain peace and cooperate with security agencies to ensure lasting stability within the community.
One of the major resolutions reached during the meeting was the adoption of a new leadership structure for the association.
According to the Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government, Hon. Dr. Omobolaji Odusanya, all affiliated groups under the Ijebu Ponmo Sellers Association including Egbe Alawo, Egbe Tinjo, Egbe Onimotor Oniponmo, Egbe Onibuka, Egbe Tinge and Egbe Tinse have now been officially recognized under one umbrella body known as the Ijebu Ponmo Sellers Association (Egbe Oni Ponmo Ijebu).
Each affiliated group will maintain its own chairman and executive members but will operate under the overall leadership of the Iya Egbe General Oni Ponmo Ijebu and the association’s central executive committee.
The meeting also approved the establishment of a Board of Trustees (BOT) to provide guidance, advice and support for the association’s activities and future development.
Furthermore, the association will now officially operate under the leadership of the Iya Egbe General Oni Ponmo Ijebu, Chief Mrs. Abeni Lawal (Iya Owo), who was constituted and installed by His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba Lawrence Jaiyeoba Adebajo, the Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo (Ojuromi VI), in conjunction with the Ijebu North Local Government Authority.
Another important decision reached at the meeting was the introduction of a unified general ticketing system that will enhance transparency, improve coordination and support the overall development and welfare of members across the association.
In his reconciliation remarks, Hon. Dr. Omobolaji Odusanya praised all stakeholders for embracing dialogue instead of conflict. He described the agreement as a victory for peace, unity and community development.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Baba Egbe Oni Ponmo, while the closing prayer was offered by the Chief Imam of Ijebu Igbo, Sheikh Badejo Qasim.
In his final remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government expressed appreciation to the traditional institution, market leaders and all stakeholders for their commitment to peace. He appealed for their continued support in strengthening the association and promoting the socio-economic development of Ijebu Igbo.
Among the dignitaries present were Baba Egbe General Oni Ponmo, Alhaji Ajibise; Babaloja General of Ijebu Igbo, Chief Sefiu Moshood Sefiu; members of the Council of Elders including Alhaji Fowosire and Mrs. Sosanya; Iyaloja General of Ijebu Igbo, Chief Mrs. Tuke Omotara; Iyaloja Oke Agbo, Chief Mrs. Ayo Falade; Iyaloja Atapako Ijebu North, Alhaja Serifat Yusuf; Babaloja Atikori, Chief Aranmo Isola; Babaloja Ojowo, Chief Abiodun Ogunderu; Iyaloja Ojowo, Chief Bernice Adeleye; Iyaloja Atikori, Chief Mrs. Adijat Animashaun; Alhaji Abdulrahman Agarawu; Alhaji Sefiu Baoku; Iyalaje of Oke Agbo, Alhaja Lawal Olorunbunmi; Iyalode of Oke Agbo, Alhaja Mosunmola Kareem; representatives of the PCRS and many other respected community leaders.
The successful reconciliation meeting officially brought the leadership dispute to an end, marking what many participants described as a historic day in the history of Ijebu Igbo.
With peace restored and a unified leadership now in place, members expressed optimism that the association will experience greater progress, stronger cooperation and improved welfare for all.
Ijebu Igbo has spoken. Peace, unity and mutual understanding have prevailed.
