Nigerian singer and songwriter, Davido, has disclosed that he didn’t have close relationship with his father, Adedeji Adeleke, when he was a child and he only came to be aware of how rich his father was when he was 13years old.
The award-winning musician made this known during an interview with an American-based podcast, ‘Earn Your Leisure’ which was published on Wednesday.
Davido stated that he wasn’t close to his dad because the older man was a workaholic.
He said, “From my younger days till I was about 11, I wasn’t really close to my daddy because he was all about work and work. I remember him coming home late every day. I didn’t know what he was doing. I didn’t even know he was rich.”
“I didn’t know he was rich till I was 13 because he lived so normal. I didn’t even know he was a billionaire driving a Honda.
“He had a brand new silver Honda Accord. He had a driver. My mum had a Toyota or so, or a Honda truck or something. So I didn’t know.
“They lived so modestly until we moved out of that house to the new house.”
He stated that when they got to the house, he then realized that his father was rich.
Davido continued, “From the new house, that was when I started trying to know what my dad did and got to know that he was into business.”
The afropop artiste also mentioned that up till now, he ia still amazed at his father’s humbleness and modesty.
“Till date, he’s still so humble and modest with the way he spends and the way he goes about his business. The way he handles his business is still amazing to me,” Davido said.
