A media team representing Hon. Jenriyi Osinowo has rejected claims that Hon. Joseph Folorunsho Adegbesan has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency.
In a press statement released on Thursday, the team described the reports as “entirely false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to deceive party members and the public.”
According to the statement, Hon. Osinowo, who has completed all necessary processes to contest under the APC, has neither agreed to step down nor endorsed any individual as a consensus candidate.
The media team emphasized that the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 clearly outline the conditions for adopting a consensus candidate, noting that such an arrangement must involve the voluntary written agreement of all aspirants. It added that where this condition is not met, the party is required to conduct a primary election.
The statement further pointed out that the APC’s internal guidelines align with the law, stressing that consensus candidacy must be based on transparency, collective agreement, and due process rather than unilateral declarations.
Reaffirming Osinowo’s position, the team stated that the aspirant remains firmly in the race and is confident of strong grassroots support across the constituency. It added that he looks forward to a free, fair, and credible primary election that will determine the party’s flag bearer.
The team urged party members, stakeholders, and the public to disregard the circulating claim, insisting that it holds no legitimacy within the framework of the law or the party’s constitution.
It also called on aspirants and their supporters to uphold integrity, respect due process, and adhere to democratic principles in order to maintain the credibility of the party.
Hon. Osinowo, the statement concluded, remains optimistic about securing the APC ticket and providing quality representation for the people of Ijebu North, Ijebu East, and Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency.
