Raluwen FC emerged champions of the highly anticipated Otunba Atunlunto of Ilugun 2026 Football Competition after defeating Mavericks FC 1-0 in a thrilling grand finale held at Raluwen High School, Atan, Ijebu North East.
The keenly contested final attracted football lovers, dignitaries, community leaders, and supporters from different parts of Ijebuland who gathered to witness the exciting conclusion of the grassroots tournament organized to promote unity, peace and youth development through sports.
After a tough first half that ended goalless, Raluwen FC finally broke the deadlock in the second half through a decisive strike from Micheal Jackson, whose goal secured victory and the championship trophy for his team.
The competition host, Otunba Simon Olalekan Oluwole, popularly known as the Otunba Atunlunto of Ilugun, arrived at the event alongside his beautiful wife, Yeye Aquila Juliana Batista Oluwole, the Yeye Atunlunto of Ilugun North Kingdom, as well as Hon. Ayodeji Ipaye, who joined the celebration from the United Kingdom.
One of the memorable moments of the event was the official signing of the match ball by the host, symbolizing sportsmanship and the success of the competition.
Several awards and cash prizes were presented to deserving players and officials during the ceremony. Ajayi Folawe of Mavericks FC emerged as the highest goal scorer of the tournament, while Mavericks FC’s goalkeeper won the Best Goalkeeper Award. The coach of Raluwen FC was also recognized as the Best Coach of the Tournament for his outstanding leadership and tactical performance throughout the competition.
In addition, one of Raluwen FC’s outstanding players was named the Best Player of the Tournament and rewarded with a huge cash prize for his remarkable contributions during the tournament.
The runners-up, Mavericks FC, received their medals for their impressive performance and resilience throughout the competition, while Raluwen FC proudly lifted the prestigious trophy amid loud celebrations from fans and supporters.
During his vote of thanks, Otunba Simon Olalekan Oluwole appreciated all organizers, teams, supporters, security agencies, and guests who contributed to the success of the competition. He also announced plans to establish a football academy in Ijebu to help discover and nurture young football talents across the region.
The Ijebu Igbo Grassroots Sports Initiative Team, organizers of the tournament, were equally honored with medals in recognition of their commitment and dedication towards promoting grassroots football and youth empowerment in Ijebuland.
The successful conclusion of the competition once again highlighted the importance of sports as a tool for community development, unity, and talent discovery.
