The Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) community has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of a final-year student who was allegedly shot around the Meekad–Mariam axis.
According to OOU Ginger Blog, a 400-level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) was reportedly shot dead during a robbery operation in the early hours of the day.
Reports indicate that between 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., a student hostel known as Ile Omo Jay, located around the Bukky’s Court axis, was allegedly invaded by armed robbers. The assailants reportedly made away with mobile phones, laptops, and other valuable belongings.
In the course of the robbery, a 400-level student was allegedly shot and killed, leaving the university community in shock and mourning.
According to reports, the unfortunate incident occurred under circumstances that are still being investigated. The deceased, a final-year student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, was said to be only a few weeks away from signing out and celebrating the successful completion of his academic journey.
Friends and colleagues described the late student as hardworking and determined, having endured years of academic challenges, sacrifices, and sleepless nights in pursuit of a university degree. His sudden death has left many devastated, as a promising future was cut short just before graduation.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety and security of students within and around campus environments. Members of the university community have called for improved security measures to protect students and residents from criminal activities.
Students have also been advised to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary late-night movements, stay in groups whenever possible, and promptly report suspicious activities to relevant authorities.
