Nigerian content creator DJ Chicken has reportedly been arrested following a controversial statement he made about President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu.
The entertainer had sparked widespread outrage on social media after a video surfaced online in which he commented on President Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election.
In the clip, which was initially shared on his Instagram page before it was later deleted, DJ Chicken claimed that President Tinubu would not win the next election and went on to make a threat against Seyi Tinubu.
The viral video showed the content creator dressed in traditional attire, wearing a white shawl and beaded necklaces, while addressing viewers during what appeared to be a live session.
During the broadcast, he said:
“Tinubu cannot win this election. If he wins, I will kill Seyi Tinubu.”
Following the circulation of the video, another clip emerged online in which a man identified as DJ Chicken’s lawyer claimed that the content creator had been taken into custody.
According to the lawyer, DJ Chicken was arrested in Ikeja and is currently being held at the Ikeja Police Headquarters, although he suggested the matter may involve the Department of State Services (DSS).
“He was arrested in Ikeja. He’s at the Ikeja Police Headquarters, but I’m sure it’s the DSS. He was arrested in connection with the statement he made some days ago about the son of the President, Seyi Tinubu,” the lawyer said.
Appealing to the authorities, the lawyer described DJ Chicken as someone who was “not okay” mentally and urged the government to show leniency.
“DJ Chicken is part of my project. It is about me giving back to society. I am a criminal lawyer. He is not okay, and there is evidence. The government should please forgive him,” he added.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have not officially confirmed the reported arrest or disclosed any charges against the content creator.
