President Bola Tinubu has expressed delight over the successful rescue of the schoolchildren and teachers abducted from the Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, commending the gallantry and professionalism of Nigeria’s security agencies.
The President praised the combined efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force for securing the victims’ release after 56 days in captivity without any collateral damage. He also disclosed that eight suspected kidnappers were arrested during the operation, while others were neutralised.
President Tinubu described the rescue as a major breakthrough in the country’s fight against insecurity and acknowledged the emotional pain endured by the victims, their families and the nation throughout the period of the abduction.
According to the President, the successful operation ended more than 50 days of anxiety and brought relief to the affected families and Nigerians at large.
“I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire in Ogbomoso, Oyo State after a military, police and intelligence-driven operation. This successful operation has ended the siege of over 50 days and brought relief to the entire nation,” the President said.
President Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration would ensure justice for the rescued victims and for the family of Mr. Oyedokun, who was reportedly killed by the abductors during the incident.
The President also commended the Oyo State Government for its collaboration with the Federal Government throughout the rescue mission and urged the state to strengthen security around schools to prevent similar incidents.
Furthermore, President Tinubu directed relevant emergency response agencies to work closely with the Oyo State Government in providing medical care, psychosocial support and other necessary relief assistance to the rescued children and their teachers.
The rescue operation marks a significant success for Nigeria’s security agencies and brings a hopeful end to one of the country’s most closely followed school abduction cases in recent months.
