Concerned Ijebu Igbo Youths, IBEDC Leaders, CDA Stakeholders Meet Over Electricity Crisis, Seek Lasting Solutions

IJEBU IGBO, OGUN STATE — Over 100 concerned youths from Ijebu Igbo have met with leaders of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Community Development Association (CDA) leaders and other stakeholders to discuss the persistent electricity challenges in the community.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the Ijebu Igbo Town Hall, focused on finding lasting solutions to the poor electricity supply and the recurring vandalisation of transformers and other electricity infrastructure in Ijebu Igbo.

The meeting was anchored by media analyst Mr. Owoseni Ridwan Kakaki, who welcomed participants and coordinated the discussions.

Among those in attendance were Mr. Keshinro Kunle, Manager of Oke-Agbo Service Centre, Alhaji Jeje Taofeek, Business Manager, IBEDC Ijebu Igbo, Chief Fatai Mustapha, CDA Chairman, Ojowo and several other CDA leaders from different parts of Ijebu Igbo, Otunba Remi Ogunbanjo, Secretary of the Ijebu Igbo Council of Elders and Former OGHA Member, Hon Sansa Ismail was also present at the meeting.

The gathering also witnessed the surprise appearance of the PDP candidate for the Ijebu North Constituency I House of Assembly seat, Hon. Agbolade Oladapo Aka Diplomacy, who attended with members of his team.

Other notable guests included Hon. Oladipupo Oluwaseun Tripple O, Hon. Adeniyi Ogunyemi Neyo International, Mc Jazzy, Hon. Kuku from Ifelodun Constituency, Nollywood actor Prince Olowolayemo Obakese and other dignitaries.

During the meeting, Hon. Agbolade Oladapo Aka Diplomacy announced that the PDP Governorship Candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, had promised to provide two transformers for the Ijebu Igbo community.

The announcement was met with applause from the gathering, as residents and youths expressed appreciation for the initiative and the proposed support.

Several Ijebu Igbo youths also used the opportunity to express their concerns and frustration over the persistent electricity challenges affecting the community.

Focus on Electricity and Transformer Vandalism

The meeting began with an opening prayer by Mr. Sulaiman Sakiru, followed by a welcome address by Mr. Owoseni Ridwan Kakaki and the introduction of community leaders, stakeholders and representatives.

The major focus of the meeting was the persistent electricity problem affecting Ijebu Igbo.

Participants discussed the causes of power supply disruptions and the need for practical and sustainable solutions that will improve electricity supply across the community.

Another major issue discussed was the vandalisation of transformers.

Stakeholders examined the impact of transformer vandalism on electricity supply and discussed ways to prevent further attacks on power infrastructure.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of community security, surveillance and prompt reporting of suspicious activities by residents.

IBEDC Engagement

Representatives of IBEDC addressed the gathering on the current challenges affecting electricity supply in Ijebu Igbo.

Discussions also focused on the condition of transformers and other electricity infrastructure, as well as possible interventions and steps towards improving power supply.

Community leaders and youths were given the opportunity to ask questions, make contributions and present their concerns.

Community Responsibility

The stakeholders agreed that solving the electricity problem requires cooperation between IBEDC, CDA leaders, youths, community members and other relevant stakeholders.

Participants discussed the need for residents to protect electricity infrastructure and work with security agencies and relevant authorities to prevent vandalism.

The meeting also emphasised stronger communication between the community and IBEDC to ensure that electricity-related concerns are properly communicated and addressed.

Resolutions and Way Forward

The meeting ended with discussions on immediate steps to address the electricity challenges in Ijebu Igbo.

Stakeholders agreed on the need to assign responsibilities, strengthen community engagement, establish follow-up mechanisms and set timelines for implementation and review.

The gathering ended on a note of unity, cooperation and commitment to the development of Ijebu Igbo.

A vote of thanks was delivered by CDA Chairman, Ojowo, Chief Fatai Mustapha.

The stakeholders expressed optimism that the meeting would mark the beginning of stronger collaboration and concrete actions towards achieving a more stable electricity supply and protecting power infrastructure across Ijebu Igbo.

The IBEDC representatives welcomed the initiative and expressed their readiness to cooperate with the community and other stakeholders in finding practical and lasting solutions to the electricity crisis in Ijebu Igbo.

The meeting further highlighted the importance of collaboration among the community, IBEDC, CDA leaders and other stakeholders in improving electricity supply and protecting power infrastructure.

It is important to recall that the movement of concerned Ijebu Igbo youths started several weeks ago, when the Ijebu North Local Government Chairman, Hon. Bolaji Odusanya, alongside some youth leaders, attended the initial meeting on the persistent electricity challenges facing Ijebu Igbo.

That meeting was a success and laid the foundation for today’s progressive meeting, which brought together concerned Ijebu Igbo youths, CDA leaders, IBEDC representatives and other stakeholders to continue the discussions and work towards finding lasting solutions to the electricity crisis in Ijebu Igbo.

This is a non-political movement driven by a genuine desire to improve the lives of our people. We remain hopeful that this collective effort will succeed and that Ijebu Igbo will enjoy stable, reliable and sufficient electricity supply.
