Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Boy Over Alleged Gang Rape of 19-Year-Old Girl in Ijebu-Igbo

IJEBU-IGBO, Ogun State — The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old boy, identified as Ayomide Kamula, over the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old girl in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the victim’s residence in the Odo Idi Scale area of Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo.

According to the police, the matter was formally reported by the victim’s mother at the Police Command, Ijebu Igbo on Tuesday, September 1, at about 10:10 a.m.

Following the report, police operatives were deployed to the location, where they secured the scene and commenced preliminary investigations.

The victim was subsequently taken to the General Hospital for medical examination and necessary treatment with the aid of a Police Medical Form.

Police authorities said the investigation led to the arrest of Kamula, who is currently being detained and assisting detectives with the inquiry into the alleged offence.

Meanwhile, the police have declared a man identified as Boye Balogun wanted in connection with the case after he reportedly fled the area.

The Command said an intelligence-led operation and manhunt had been launched to locate and arrest the fleeing suspect.

The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned sexual and gender-based violence, stressing that such offences would not be tolerated in the state.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to investigating sexual offences thoroughly and discreetly, while assuring the victim’s family that the police would pursue the matter in accordance with the law.

He also directed that efforts to locate the fleeing suspect should continue until he is apprehended and brought before the appropriate authorities.

The police appealed to members of the public who may have credible information about the whereabouts of the fleeing suspect to provide such information to the relevant security authorities.

The Command reiterated that the investigation remains ongoing.
