The Oluomo of Ijebu Igbo, High Chief Alhaji Abiodun Ismail Lawal Abinugbola MSc, has declared his support for Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Ogun State governorship election.
The traditional titleholder also disclosed that he had donated three vehicles and other campaign materials in support of the campaign, citing the need for greater political engagement and increased attention to infrastructural development in Ijebu Igbo.
In a statement titled “Ijebu Igbo and the Politics of Development,” High Chief Abinugbola urged the people of Ijebu Igbo to reflect on their political choices and prioritise the long-term development of the community.
He argued that political alignment and constructive engagement with those in government could influence the level of attention and development communities receive, noting that Ijebu Igbo could no longer afford to remain on the sidelines of governance.
According to him, the community has spent more than 12 years largely on the opposition side, a situation he believes warrants a reassessment of its political strategy in the interest of infrastructural growth and improved welfare for residents.
The projects attributed to Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) in Ijebu Igbo, as stated by High Chief Alh. Lawal Abiodun Abinugbola, Oluomo of Ijebu Igbo, are:
- Chicago to Idi Aba Road, Oke Agbo
- Oke Erefon Road to Delaw House Oke Agbo
- Tannin Road, beside the Ijebu Igbo Eid praying ground.
- Supply and installation of transformers in parts of the community.
- Construction of classroom blocks to improve educational infrastructure in Ijebu Igbo.
He said these interventions had drawn attention to the importance of effective representation and political cooperation in facilitating development at the grassroots level.
The Oluomo further noted that Senator Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District, had undertaken projects in Ijebu Igbo, raising questions about the responsibilities of political representatives and the need to ensure that the community benefits from government programmes and infrastructure projects.
Explaining his decision to support the APC candidate in the forthcoming governorship election, High Chief Abinugbola said his position was driven by the desire to see Ijebu Igbo attract greater attention in critical areas, including road construction, education, electricity and other essential infrastructure.
He called on residents to engage in meaningful political discussions and assess political leaders based on their records, commitments and contributions to the development of the community.
“The future of Ijebu Igbo must remain our collective priority,” he emphasised.
The Oluomo’s declaration adds to the ongoing political conversations surrounding the forthcoming Ogun State governorship election, particularly regarding the role of political alliances, community interests and infrastructural development in shaping electoral decisions.
He maintained that the ultimate goal should be to secure a better future for Ijebu Igbo and its people through strategic political participation and a sustained focus on development.
