Otunba Olalekan Simon Oluwole, a concerned son of Ijebu land, has called on the sons and daughters of Ijebu-Igbo, both at home and in the diaspora, to work together towards building a better future for the community.
In a press statement dated October 25, 2026, titled “The Ijebu-Igbo We Dream Of: A Shared Responsibility for Our Future,” Otunba Oluwole said that developing the town requires the combined efforts of residents, community leaders, government officials, business owners and well-meaning individuals.
He said he dreams of an Ijebu-Igbo with good roads, accessible healthcare, quality education, reliable electricity, thriving businesses and better opportunities for young people.
“The Ijebu-Igbo we dream of will not build itself. It will require sustained community participation, responsible public leadership, private investment and a shared commitment to development,” he stated.
Calls for Responsible Leadership and Accountability
As the next election approaches, Otunba Oluwole urged residents to take a serious interest in the political process by seeking reliable information about candidates, their plans, their records and the responsibilities attached to the offices they seek.
He stressed that public discussions should focus on practical solutions, transparency and accountability rather than empty promises.
According to him, important issues such as roads, education, healthcare, security, business development, youth employment and the protection of Ijebu-Igbo’s cultural heritage should remain priorities before, during and after elections.
He also called on public officeholders to communicate their plans clearly, report their progress and account for public resources.
Diaspora Members Have a Role to Play
The community leader also called on indigenes living outside Ijebu-Igbo to contribute to the town’s development through investment, mentorship, entrepreneurship, philanthropy and cooperation with local initiatives.
He noted that people who have gained knowledge, experience and resources elsewhere can use them to create opportunities and improve lives in their hometown.
Otunba Oluwole added that although government has an important role to play, community development cannot depend on government alone. He encouraged residents to support credible community projects while continuing to demand responsible leadership.
Envisions a Better Future for Young People
Otunba Oluwole expressed hope for an Ijebu-Igbo where young people can find meaningful opportunities, build successful careers and establish businesses without feeling forced to leave town in search of a better life.
He called for inclusive development that gives everyone a chance to contribute, regardless of political affiliation.
In his words, “The future of Ijebu-Igbo is bigger than any individual, political party or election. Let us discuss, contribute and build together.”
He further urged all sons and daughters of the town to engage peacefully, exchange ideas respectfully and work towards a common vision for the community.
A Call for Collective Responsibility
Otunba Oluwole’s message serves as a call for unity and shared responsibility among the people of Ijebu-Igbo. He emphasised that lasting development requires more than political promises; it demands commitment, cooperation, investment and continuous action from everyone.
He concluded with the words, “Ijebu Is Our Own Abroad.”
