Kogi Central lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has officially resumed duties at her office in the National Assembly, Abuja, following the expiration of her six-month suspension.
The senator arrived around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, accompanied by a large crowd of supporters waving Nigerian flags. Security operatives at the main entrance, however, denied the supporters access and later dispersed them with teargas. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and a few aides were eventually granted entry into the building.
She proceeded straight to her office in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing, where she took her seat shortly after the management of the National Assembly unsealed it.
Speaking to journalists, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted she had no apologies to tender, stressing that her suspension was unjust.
“I honestly don’t know what apology they expect from me. You cannot apologise for an injustice. The document that led to my unlawful suspension, which Senator Neda Imasuen read, came from the Senate President’s office. The attached signatures were merely attendance lists, not endorsements. That renders the process fraudulent,” she stated.
As of the time of filing this report, the National Assembly management had not released an official statement confirming her clearance to resume legislative duties.
