Ven. Edwin Achi, an Anglican vicar of the Diocese of Kaduna, who was abducted alongside his wife, Mrs. Sarah Achi, has been killed while in captivity.
The cleric and his wife, a serving customs officer, were kidnapped from their residence in Kaduna State in the early hours of October 28, 2025.
The abduction was earlier reported, after which the captors reportedly demanded a ₦100 million ransom for their release.
On Monday, the suspected Fulani Kidnappers allegedly accessed Ven. Achi’s mobile phone and posted distressing photographs of the couple on his Facebook page.
The posts sparked public concern and were widely interpreted as proof that both victims were still alive at the time.
However, reports that emerged late Monday night indicated that the cleric was later killed in captivity. The exact circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and security agencies have not issued an official statement as of press time.
The whereabouts and condition of Mrs. Sarah Achi remain unknown, raising renewed fears over her safety.
The killing has triggered widespread outrage, with many Nigerians condemning the continued spate of abductions and worsening insecurity in Kaduna State and across the country.
Calls have mounted for security agencies to intensify rescue operations and bring those responsible to justice.
