In a decisive move to strengthen local security ahead of the festive season, Ijebu North Local Government Area under the leadership of Hon Dr. Omobolaji Oluwaseun Odusanya today organized a high-level Security Summit and inaugurated a Security Trust Fund aimed at bolstering peace and community protection.
The summit, attended by key local leaders, security officials, traditional rulers and community stakeholders, focused on recent safety challenges and strategies to enhance law enforcement partnerships across the council area.
At the event, prominent figures including Prince Segun Kaka, Princw Kashamu, the Local Government Chairman, Hon Dr. Omobolaji Oluwaseun Odusanya, Oba Dr Mufutau Yusuf, Oba Banjo Olokine, Oba Beje Roku, Oloru of Oru and other well-meaning citizens made generous donations to the newly established Ijebu North Security Trust Fund. The fund is expected to support community-driven security initiatives, provide logistics for local vigilante groups, and strengthen collaboration with formal security agencies.
In a related announcement, the Local Government Council has banned the sale, use and distribution of fireworks throughout the council ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations citing heightened security concerns that such items can be misused or serve as cover for criminal activities.
In addition, the council enforced an Okada and Keke curfew effective immediately. Under the new directive, commercial motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles (Keke Napep) are restricted from operating between 10 PM and 6 AM daily. The move is intended to limit nighttime criminal activity and enhance public safety during the peak festive period.
Council officials called on residents to cooperate fully with security agencies and to report suspicious activities through available community reporting channels. They also reiterated that the combined efforts of citizens, traditional institutions, and law enforcement are essential in maintaining peace and stability in Ijebu North.
Residents are encouraged to plan travel and work schedules accordingly in light of the new curfew and fireworks ban, and to support the council’s proactive measures in safeguarding lives and property.
