A community outreach visit by the Fecund Empire Community Development Foundation (Fecund Empire Foundation) to Odosubugbawa and surrounding rural communities close to Ijebu Igbo has sparked concern following an alleged incident of public harassment involving officers from Topon Police Station.
The Foundation’s Convener, Mr. Olalekan Simon Oluwole, said the incident occurred while he was visiting the community with his wife and mother-in-law who are Brazilian as part of the Foundation’s January 2026 intervention programme.
Meanwhile, a video recording obtained by SaharaReporters shows officers attached to the jebu-lgbo Police Division stopping a young man Mr. Olalekan in his maybach benz in Ijebu Igbo.
The victim, who had recently returned to Nigeria from Brazil with his family when he was allegedly stopped, was reportedly assaulted and accused of being in possession of a stolen vehicle.
“The allegation was fabricated as a pretext to extort money from me,” he told SaharaReporters.
The officers mentioned in the petition by Oluomo of Ijebu Igbo are among those visible in the video footage.
According to him, the encounter with law enforcement officers happened publicly and without what he described as proper engagement, identification,or respect.
“Giving back should never invite humiliation. This is not about cars or status. It is about dignity, the rule of law, and how we treat our own,” he said.
He noted that the experience was particularly painful because it happened in front of family members and community residents they had come to serve.

The Foundation emphasized that it supports lawful policing but called for professionalism, accountability, and respectful engagement between security agencies and citizens.
Foundation’s January 2026 Community Interventions
Despite the incident, the Foundation highlighted that its visit to Odosubugbawa was focused on practical and community-driven development initiatives, including:
- 🎭 Full sponsorship of the Odosubugbawa Ayayo Epo & Agere Festival, aimed at preserving cultural heritage and strengthening community identity.
- 📚 Distribution of over 2,000 exercise books to children in rural communities to support access to basic education.
- 🤝 N25,000 grants to 50 beneficiaries, including farmers, widows, and elderly residents, to strengthen livelihoods.
- ⚡ Installation of a 4.2KVA solar-powered community charging station to improve access to clean and sustainable energy.
- 🍚 Zero Hunger support initiative, distributing 5kg of rice and 2 litres of cooking oil to 150 residents to support food security.
The Foundation stated that its model of development focuses on holistic impact combining culture, education, economic support, energy access, and food security.
“Ijebu Is Our Own Abroad” Initiative
The outreach forms part of a broader 2026 vision tagged:
Ijebu Is Our Own Abroad
According to Mr. Oluwole, the initiative is built on the belief that Ijebu indigenes living outside their hometowns should always feel welcomed and respected when they return home to invest, serve, or reconnect with their roots.
“When individuals and families return home to serve, invest and preserve culture, they should be met with partnership, respect, and lawful engagement not suspicion or humiliation,” he said.
The Foundation said it will continue to speak “calmly, responsibly, and constructively” on issues relating to dignity, community trust, and institutional accountability.
Looking Ahead: 2026 Commitments
The Foundation also outlined upcoming programmes for 2026, including:
- 🌱 Tree planting and anti-deforestation education campaigns
- 🧹 Clean community awareness initiatives
- 💡 Sustainable lighting projects for markets and public spaces
“These are not symbolic gestures,” the statement read. “They are practical commitments to building safer, healthier, and more welcoming communities.”
The Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to community service, stating that its mission remains rooted in dignity, resilience and long-term development.
“Ijebu is our own abroad. Home should always be a place of belonging, safety and respect,” Mr. Oluwole concluded.
