President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who died while in terrorists’ captivity in Katsina State.
According to the President, the retired military officer, who had served the nation with distinction before retiring a few years ago, was travelling to his hometown when he was abducted by the criminals.
President Tinubu condoled with the family of the late General, particularly his wife, who remains in captivity.
He also extended his sympathies to the Katsina State Government and the Nigerian Armed Forces over the loss.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s resolve not to negotiate with terrorists or bow to demands for the release of detained terrorist suspects.
He stressed that the government would continue to confront criminal elements with full force.
Recalling his Democracy Day address of June 12, Tinubu reiterated that bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terrorism must surrender or face the full weight of the law, warning that no mercy would be shown to those responsible for violence against Nigerians.
He urged citizens to remain united and confident that the country would overcome terrorism and continue on the path of national development and prosperity.
President Tinubu described General Abubakar’s death as a defining moment in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, emphasizing that terrorists and insurgents should be treated as enemies of the nation and never negotiated with.
