The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 30 suspected cultists following a coordinated operation that disrupted an alleged cult initiation procession in Isara-Remo, Ogun State.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with the Isara Area Command after receiving credible intelligence about an unlawful gathering reportedly linked to cult activities.
According to the police, the suspects were allegedly involved in a procession characterized by chanting, alcohol consumption and activities believed to be connected to cult initiation rites. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, security operatives stormed the location, dispersed the gathering, and successfully apprehended 30 suspects.
During the operation, police recovered four abandoned vehicles as well as several items believed to have been used during the gathering. The exhibits recovered include a jack knife, a local drum, a “sekere” (traditional rattle), and bottles suspected to contain alcoholic substances.
All suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, where further investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of their involvement and possible links to other criminal activities.
Reacting to the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and dedication of the officers involved. He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
The Police Commissioner also warned individuals involved in cult-related activities to renounce criminality, stressing that the Command will not tolerate unlawful assemblies or actions capable of threatening public peace and security.
