A tragic road accident occurred in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, on Thursday after a container trailer reportedly loaded with hide and skin (awo ponmo) allegedly lost control and fatally struck a woman around ogbere road Oke agbo.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased had just picked up her children from school and was heading home when the trailer ran into her. She died instantly at the scene due to the impact.
The incident sparked outrage among residents, who reportedly pursued the trailer driver as he attempted to flee. In the process, the windscreen of the trailer was smashed by the angry crowd.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police quickly arrived at the scene, restored calm and took the driver into custody. The vehicle was also secured as part of the ongoing investigation.
