There have been growing calls from Nigerians for the Oyo State Government and other relevant authorities to immortalize the late Michael Oyedokun by naming a secondary school in his honour.
Many supporters believe the gesture would serve as a lasting tribute to Oyedokun’s dedication to education and his service to humanity. They have proposed the name Michael Oyedokun Memorial Grammar School, Orire, Esinele, Oyo State, as a way of preserving his legacy for future generations.
The calls come in the wake of the tragic incident involving Oyedokun, a mathematics teacher who was among those abducted during an attack on Community High School in Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. Although several pupils and teachers were eventually rescued, Oyedokun lost his life while in captivity.
Supporters say naming a school after him would not only honour his sacrifice but also recognize the vital role teachers play in shaping society. They have urged the Oyo State Government, the Ministry of Education, and other relevant stakeholders to consider the proposal.
As public support continues to grow, many Nigerians hope the government will take steps to ensure that Michael Oyedokun’s commitment to education and service is remembered for generations to come.
