Before the emergence and domination of Western culture and religion, being a virgin is a highly-regarded act in an African setting, although the act is still being respected in some African countries, culture, tribes but in this 21st century it is gradually being thrown behind the fence in the name of civilization

The hymen is a thin fleshy tissue that is located at the opening of the vagina. Female hymen are a little different from each other some could be stretched open the first time during sexual intercourse which might cause pain or bleeding but this doesn’t happen to everyone.

This bleeding as believed by Africans is the confirmation of a woman being a virgin but according to a research by New Zealand healthcare navigator in 2019 made it known that it is common not to bleed the first time a lady has sex the research work might not be widely accepted by Africans because of their belief in bleeding after first sexual experience.
Research made in Nigeria shed more light on how women are accused of lying which has broken the trust their partners have in them.

Bimbo a 26year old lady of the polytechnic of ibadan says she has issues with her fiance about her virginity which cause alot of misunderstanding between them.

Similarly a woman from oyo,Mrs Akindeji talks about how her husband almost ended their marriage because he belived she lied to him before their wedding,claiming she deceived him. Meanwhile they were both from a strong Christian home.

A man from Abia,Mr Patrick also said he was sad when the girl they brought from village for him to marry who claim to be a virgin,after their sexual intercourse no blood was seen at first he was angry at her for lying but later after speaking with his doctor about it, he understood.
