Iyiola Omisore, Nigerian Politician Who Won A Senatorial Election In Osun While In Detention | MarvelTvUpdates

A Chatered Engineer, Businessman and Politician. Iyiola Omisore came into political limelight in 1999 following his emergence as the Deputy Governor of Osun State during the Former Governor Bisi Akande-led Administration.

The going between the duo was good until 2002 when Omisore ran into trouble water following the gruesome murder of a Former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige.

A week before Ige’s death, there was a rift between Omisore and his boss Chief Bisi Akande, over the death of an House of Assembly Member, Odunayo Olagbaju, a loyalist of Omisore. Olagbaju was alleged to have play a key role in the humiliation of Ige at the Ooni of ife’s palace in which Ige was attacked by a mob during the Chieftancy Investiture of the wife of Former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The rift between Omisore and Akande deepened, a development that led to the impeachment of Omisore as the Deputy Governor. Shortly after his impeachment, he was arrested in December 2002 despite decamping to the then ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

While in detention, Omisore won the Osun East Senatorial Seat on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Due to lack of evidence to prove him guilty, Omisore was acquitted in May 2003.

Omisore was re-elected for a second term as Senator in 2007, As Senator, he served in different capacities including Senate Committees on Police Affairs, Housing, Culture, Tourism, Aviation and Appropriation.

In 2014, He contested for the Osun State Gubernatorial Election under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but lost to the incumbent Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In 2018, he took another shot at the Governorship Seat on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). However, he came a distant third in the keenly contested election.
