The Ijebu North Local Government on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 held a Security Summit today themed “For a Better and Secured Ijebu North” at the Ijebu North Multipurpose Hall, Ijebu Igbo.
The summit brought together security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth representatives, transport unions, community stakeholders and government officials to deliberate on strategies aimed at strengthening security across the local government area.
Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting, the Executive Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government, Hon. Dr. Bolaji Odusanya, outlined several resolutions reached during the summit to address security challenges and promote peace within the council area.
According to the chairman, security operatives will intensify stop-and-search operations across the local government. However, he emphasized that residents’ mobile phones will not be subjected to routine checks during such operations.
He further disclosed that police officers and other security personnel will begin periodic visits to schools during school hours as part of efforts to engage students and strengthen security awareness among young people.
Parents were advised to caution their children against criminal activities and drug abuse, while community members were urged to support security agencies with useful information capable of preventing crime.
The chairman also announced plans for dialogue and engagement with the Seriki Fulani and members of the Fulani community to foster peaceful coexistence and prevent unnecessary accusations, conflicts, and security concerns.
Landlords, house owners and property agents were urged to exercise caution when renting out properties and to properly verify prospective tenants. Transport operators were equally encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or passengers to relevant authorities.
As part of measures to improve monitoring and regulation, scavengers operating within Ijebu North will be provided with a designated permanent site and issued means of identification. Similarly, commercial motorcycle riders (Okada operators) will be registered, properly identified, and issued riders’ permits.
Hon. Odusanya further assured residents that efforts would be made to improve funding and logistical support for security agencies operating within the local government area.
He stressed that community participation remains critical in the fight against insecurity, urging residents to embrace the principle of “See Something, Say Something” by promptly reporting suspicious activities to security authorities.
The summit was attended by several notable dignitaries, including Alayeluwa Oba Lawrence Jaiyeola Adebajo, Ojuromi VI, the Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo, His Royal Highness, Oba Dr. Mufutau Adesesan Yusuf, His Royal Highness, Oba Dr. Abdulrasheed Abayomi Banjo, PhD, the Olokine of Ojowo, His Royal Highness, Oba Adewale Aderemi Ogunye, the Abijaparako of Japara, His Royal Highness, Oba Stephen Adeleke Adekoya, His Royal Highness, Oba Tajudeen Kolawole Omotayo, the Onimope of Imope, His Royal Highness, Oba (Dr.) Abdul Razaq Olufemi Adebanjo, Oloru of Oru-Ijebu, the Oluomo of Ijebu Igbo, the Chief Imam of Ijebu Igbo, representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), AMOTEKUN Corps, So Safe Corps, Vigilante Groups, and Other All Local Securities, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), commercial motorcycle operators, community leaders, and various youth organizations.
The meeting ended on a positive note with goodwill messages from participants, who pledged their support towards building a safer, more peaceful, and secure Ijebu North Local Government Area.
